The Swellers and SideOneDummy Records put differences a side and partner for the release of the “Vehicle City Blues 7 Inch”
SlyOneDummy | Apr 20, 2012
It was a rare rainy day in the fall of 2008 when all of us at SideOneDummy first met The Swellers. The guys were then out looking for a label home and we had a meeting with them to discuss the potential of working together. At that point in time there was an election going on, and our office had acquired a one of a kind John McCain and Sarah Palin autographed photo. On that fateful day when The Swellers were by, our treasured photo was torn to shreds and put in the trash. Now, being the masters of the obvious that we are, we blamed the band because they were the only ones here that didn’t respect the “value” of that photo.
Four years later, The Swellers resurfaced in the lives of the staff of SideOneDummy when the band took We Are The Ocean out on their first US tour, and the label was forced against their will to deal with the band again. In working with the band we found out that they were actually pretty solid dudes and really didn’t tear up our photo (which was a forgery anyway), so we decided it was a good time to get together and release a bad-ass 7″.
The 7″ features two unreleased tracks from their Good For Me sessions, and were recorded at The Blasting Room by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore. The A side is called Vehicle City Blues and sounds like it could fit on a Propaghandi record. The B Side is called Red Lights and is a fast paced jam that will make you want to drive your car like you stole it. Our initial pressing of the 7″ will be limited to 1,000 pieces (400 Blue, 300 Red and 300 Green). The 7″ will be out on May 29th and the band will have it available at their merch table on their entire tour with The Early November, The Wonder Years and Young Statues. You can pre-order it on Red Vinyl HERE.
(P.S. the story above is pretty much completely untrue. We love the Swellers and always have. We are stoked to be releasing a new 7″ from them. They are a great band and we are honored they’d let us work with them)
