On January 30th, while on tour, Audra Mae stopped by 106.1 WCNR The Corner in Charlottesville, VA for an interview and performance. Along with bassist Joe Gingsberg, Audra performed new songs from her new record, “Audra Mae and The Almighty Sound” scheduled for release on February 14th. The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band releases “Peyton on Patton” today!

Charley Patton, according to Reverend Peyton, “might be the single most important figure in 20th century American music.” The Rev elaborates on that statement in a short essay about Charley Patton, that can be found in the booklet for “Peyton on Patton”. You can read an excerpt from the essay below.

When I first heard Charley Patton, my life was changed forever.  I was hooked.  He made it sound like two guitars.  I have spent a lifetime admiring and studying his music.  I have mentioned his name in interviews and I always have credited him as a big influence on my music.  The Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band has been around the world, we have performed for hundreds, and we have performed for thousands.   After a decade of pilgrimages and tours, we have become a fixture at festivals and venues in the Mississippi Delta of Charley’s birth.  I have been playing guitar since I was 12.  I started giving guitar lessons after I had been playing for only a year.  Only now do I feel confident enough to attempt to pay tribute to my Patron Saint Charley Patton.

Along with our very own, Title Fight, the fest will also feature the Descendents, Guided By Voices, The Weakerthans, Kid Dynamite, The Dead Milkmen and many other bands that I can name but it would be most convenient if you just see for yourself HERE. If you got $35 and then an extra $4 for a bacon wrapped hotdog and maybe $2 for some water because you will get thirsty at some point, cruise on down to the City of Angels for this one.
